Where Wonder Turns Into Action

Every student deserves the chance to experience the wonders of aquatic life. A spark of curiosity at an aquarium can inspire a future aquatic enthusiast, scientist, or advocate.

But many students never get this experience, as cost and distance can hinder schools from accessing aquarium education programs.

The Aquarium Scholars program removes these barriers. This partnership of the North Carolina Aquarium Society, the three North Carolina Aquariums and Jennette’s Pier, and the state’s public school system brings STEM-based aquarium education programs to students from Title I schools across the state.

Bringing Aquatic Science to Every Classroom

Aquarium Scholars brings students face-to-fin with aquatic life to learn about species, habitats, and conservation. Mini-grants are available to Title I-eligible schools to support:

Field Trips

Immersive visits to aquarium facilities where students explore exhibits and participate in educational programs

Travel

Bus fees, lunch costs and substitute teacher stipends reduce barriers to visitation

Outreach

Aquarium educators bring animals, interactive activities, and aquatic science directly to classrooms

Distance Learning

Live online sessions connecting students with aquarium educators and aquatic life
